For the past months, a lot of tonkatsu places have popped up. There’s Yabu and Kimukatsu at the top of the list (my list). But within the busy streets in Makati, one can find this small, not mainstream restaurant called “Tonkatsu-ya.”
It cannot be spotted that easily unless you’re really looking. Not to mention the fact that it is not inside a mall but just stands in a small condominium in a very busy street. There are public vehicles that pass by it but its sign isn’t that flashy to get the attention of tired commuters. Luckily, I was able to notice it. So one random afternoon, we decided to give it a try for it is convenient for us because we were staying near the place.
I ordered chicken katsu. This set comes with a cup of rice, miso soup, and veggies. For a cheaper price, PHP 220, it tastes same as the high end tonkatsu places I’ve mentioned earlier. Meat’s tender and crispy and the rice is quite a big serving for me. I guess the edge the others have is the unlimited rice and fruits. Nevertheless, I could assure you the serving’s enough. Moreover, since it is not that mainstream, there’s no lines so you can be seated immediately.
We’re still eating in this place every now and then. It is recommended if you love tonkatsu but doesn’t want to spend that much.
